We are here looking for easy drinking and serious wines. But let’s comparable two regions and their red wines. We will talk about Italy and Cyprus. Abruzzo with the highest designation is situated in the region of Le Marche. And Vouni Panagia- Ambelitis with its best quality terroir and great history.
Why do you think I decide to talk about these two regions?
It was 2009 when I first visit Italy. I fell in love with the mountain and the sea. For an hour you can experience mountain and beaches in the area of Le Marche. Nowadays I am living in Cyprus in Paphos area. Where you can explore for the same time beautiful quiet beaches and Troodos Mountain.
What red wine do we need in the summer days?
When the first sun comes out with higher temperatures at the beginning of the summer. We already think about white wines which will refresh ourselves. What about red wines? I like drinking serious red wines with higher tannins and full body. But my ideal red wines for the summer days are easier drinking with soft tannins and medium body.
Montepulciano d’Abruzzo
Le Marche describes from the Italians as all of Italy in one region. On the hill slides, the soils are very thin and the roots should do deeper for water. Le Marche shares the beauty of his neighbours Umbria and Tuscany. You can experience the mountain and the beaches in one breath. Abruzzo with his unique indigenous grape varieties – Verdicchio and Montepulciano.
The great red variety- Montepulciano
The red variety with soft tannins, medium body and medium alcohol. Ideal food pairing for that variety is pizza and plates of pasta with tomatoes sauces and fresh herbs.
What about Cyprus and Lemona village?
Lemona village is situated in Vouni Panagia- Ambelitis region. Forty minutes from Troodos Mountain and fifteen minutes from the nearest beaches in Paphos area. Located in the coveted south end of the Troodos Mountains. The TSANGARIDES vines nestle and thrive amongst some of the most picturesque scenery. In the beginning, the enormous effort went into site selection. And to sites that matched the idea of distinctive wines.
Organic Maratheftiko
Tsangarides winery with his single organic vineyards on VSP at Arkanas-Lemona present soft tannin red wine. The ageing of the wine is in French oak barrels for 9 to 12 months. Maratheftiko has a medium body, soft tannins and long after taste. Perfect food pairing in the summer days pizza, pita with olives and kefalotiri and Stifado (beef stew with tomatoes and cinnamon).
Enjoy Cypriot wines and Italian wines with proper food and best friends. All about good wines is a good company and pleasant food.
