Ferraton F Pere & Fils

Ferraton F Pere & Fils

The diamond of biodynamic farming in North Rhone.

Jean-Orens has begun with less than an acre of land in 1946. It has been producing top quality wines in Tain l’ Hermitage.

Ferraton was one of the first in biodynamic farming.

In 1960 his son Michel expanded vineyards holding by Ferraton including plots in Saint-Joseph, Hermitage and Crozes Hermitage. The land of the most significant and promising red wines in North Rhone. The most precious and unique plots with its AOC appellations of white and red wines.

The idea of making extraordinary wines was by generation of hard work and winemaker appreciation.

Ferraton has made its wines as diamonds luxurious as balance and taste. Almost the winery was less orientated in his marketing strategy by that time back in 90s. Michel Chapoutier has been helping his close friend Michel Ferraton in his marketing. The best combination of extremely well-balanced wines and boosted wines. They made selling products.

After a difficult situation in 2006, the winery goes into the hands of Michel Chapoutier as a partnership.

Ferraton has kept its structure and staff and until nowadays is going in the same direction as was the first idea of precious wines.

Since 2004, winemaker Damien Brisset has been developing terroir oriented Ferraton deeper concentrated in the soils than in the method of production.

It was an honour for me to take part of amazing Master Class at Amalia Hotel done by Wine and More.

Wine tasting notes by Gergana Nikolova professional Sommelier from Cyprus.

Viognier Collines Rhodaniennes 2018 IGP

On the right bank of Rhone, along the slopes of North Ardeche. Terroir of schist, granite and gore.

Outstanding Viognier with straw yellow colour with green hints. The aromas of this white wine are amazing if you would like to have an obvious example of the grape.

My sense was extremely happy to find clear intense aromas of green pears, guava, white peach, camomile tea, jasmine, earthy and petrol notes.

Palate is dry, medium minus acidity, medium to full body with elegant alcohol for Viognier.

Wine to be drunk with good friends, complimented by elegant music. You will enjoy it and you will need sip after sip getting better and better.

Ferraton made an elegant impression of amazing terroir with a silky touch of extraordinary wine.

Ermitage “Le Reverdy” Blanc

50% Marsanne and 50% Roussanne

Ferraton produces the wine from two plots: les Beaumes (limestone and alluvial soils) and le Meal (terraces of rounded pebbles). South and South-East exposure.

Colour of the wine is clear and deep straw yellow.

You will love this new fashion bouquet of gooseberries, star fruit, grapes, pomelo, daisy flower, yellow chillies, slight toasty and yeasty notes. Ferraton has been using only two years old barrels for complexity.

Palate is elegant as a businesswoman in a summer dress with lace and tulle. You can feel its power, but the palate will make you speechless.

Food pairing will be part of full enjoyment. You can pair with lobster and shrimp risotto or pan-fried courgettes with yogurt sauce.

Crozes-Hermitage “La matiniere” Red 2018

Grape variety 100% Syrah

Soil is sedimentary and the vineyards are South and South-East facing. Ferraton blends Syrah from different plots of the area of Mercurol.

Colour getting deeper and intense than the Syrah we taste from Collines Rhodaniennes.

They have produced the wine from a Plato with sedimentary soils. Aromas will give us typical nuances of Syrah, made it for every consumer who can enjoy wonderful red wine.

You will need to swirl a bit to get all magnificent aromas of blackberries, black plum, white pepper, green bell pepper, fresh cut wild mushrooms and rose petals. You will find sweet spices of cardamon and dry coriander.

It has balanced palate with med acidity, med plus tannins, med plus alcohol and med to full body. You will find a glass of Syrah much more interesting and wilder than the previous one.

Food pairing will make you ready for a steak or beef carpaccio.

You have biodynamic wine elegant and balanced. Try to choose fresh meat or fresh oily fish instead of frozen one.

Hermitage “Les Miaux” Red 2017

Grape variety 100% Syrah

Soils are clay and limestone subsoil with alluvial soils and pebbles on the surface. Terraces of rounded pebbles.

This wine aged in French oak barrels for about 12-14 months only 10% goes to new oak.

Syrah lovers will enjoy its deep ruby colour.

They oriented Ferraton winery more in the terroir’s sector and soil than verification methods. Bouquet of the wine has intense aromas of blueberries, black plums, black pepper, black tea leaves, salty pecan, cinnamon and grilled red chilies.

The very first sniff of the wine send me on an autumn morning at the spruce forest next to my grandmother’s house with amazing resin of fresh cut tree. You can be very enthusiastic about its long after taste of spicy cardamon and black cherries.

Ferraton gives extra finesse of the wine with its gentle oak fermentation.

Wine is dry with high acidity, high tannins and full body. Excellent for high protein food and game.

Food friendly wine magnificent pairing with white truffles and Toma-Hawk with wild mushrooms.
