When the founder of A20 Real Estate, Peter Howard first visited Cyprus in 2005 he quickly realised that there was a dearth of English-speaking Estate Agents who would appeal to the more discerning clients. Being a somewhat mature person himself Peter soon came to the conclusion that this hole in the market needed to be filled and who better to fill it than himself!?
Born in Norfolk England, he moved to Cyprus in 2005 after holidaying in the delightful town of Polis and Latchi and was immediately struck by the potential of this most beautiful and scenic part of Cyprus.
Located on the north west coast of the island and less than an hour’s drive from Paphos International Airport, Polis and the surrounding towns and villages including Latchi, Argaka, Prodromi and Droushia, are regarded as hidden jewels on this most beautiful island.
The center of Polis is renowned for its quaint cobbled streets, unique square and numerous amenities. Just along the road is the upmarket marina of Latchi famous for its exciting aqua sports and crystal-clear water- don’t forget this is the Mediterranean!! The Akamas National Park, well known for its exotic and extensive flora and fauna, as well as its delightful nature trails is no more than 15 minutes’ drive from Polis. All of this is overlooked by the foothills of the imposing Troodos mountains.
As well as the areas near to the beach there are numerous mountain villages, most of them with local shops and tavernas, which reflect life in Cyprus as it would have been perhaps 100 years ago. These include such delightful places as Simou, Neo Chorio, Droushia, Lysos,and Akourdalia. Not only are these villages the last word in peace and serenity but they also offer the most stunning views over the north western tip of this lovely island.
Unlike some other areas of the island, Polis does not ‘hibernate’ for the winter. The ideal mix of holiday makers and permanent residents mean that there is always some form of activity in which to take part and that the majority of bars and tavernas remain open all year round. In fact, the writer of this article has lived here for 16 years and for 12 of those 16 years has enjoyed Christmas lunch in shirtsleeves on Latchi harbor- front in daytime temperatures of 20 degrees plus!
